Allala Laouiti, seen on the left of the picture, was Bourguiba's trusted personal assistant and friend since the period of Bourguiba's struggle for the independence of Tunisia. After independence he became Chief of the Personal Secretariat for Bourguiba, first as Prime Minister, then as President.
