Right to left: Abdelhamid Ghaleb, former Egyptian Military Attaché in Washington, D.C. during the reign of King Farouk, then long-time Ambassador of Egypt to Lebanon under President Gamal Abdel-Nasser. In Lebanon Ambassador Ghaleb was nicknamed “the Egyptian High Commissioner” because of his ongoing interference in Lebanese internal affairs – Sheikh Ahmad Hassan El-Baqouri, Egyptian Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) under President Nasser – Eltaher.
This picture was taken in Beirut in October 1955 before Eltaher went to war against President Nasser’s regime in Egypt and his ambassador Abdelhamid Ghaleb, which eventually led to stripping Eltaher of his Egyptian citizenship.
