In as much as the Jews consider the return to Zion, or Aliya in Hebrew, i.e. the takeover of Palestine, as a holy duty, or mitzvah, the Palestinians considered that defending themselves and their country Palestine against the invaders to have also been a holy duty, or Jihad in Arabic.
