"Ten Years with Farouq" is probably the censored version of the two-volume memoirs of King Farouq's Press Advisor Karim Thabet Pasha, who was of Lebanese origin.
In page 57 of volume 2 of this book, Karim Pasha relates the story of how Eltaher had advised him of Emir Abdelkrim Al-Khattabi's presence in Egyptian waters and both concocted the rescue of the Emir from French captivity in 1947 with the participation of the King himself in the plot. Illustrated details of this movie-like story is related in this website.
