Tunisian nationalist and future President of Tunisia Habib Bourguiba with Lebanese Druze notable and Pan Islamic nationalist Emir Shakib Arslan. Emir Shakib’s personality, his Lebano-European experience, his earlier role as an Ottoman official, and his franco-Arab socio-cultural background, all helped him play a major role in creating an organic link between the movements for independence in the Maghreb and Mashreq countries. The activities of the Emir were publicized by Eltaher in his newspapers.
A street was named after Emir Shakib in the Marsa neighbourhood north of the Tunisian capital following Tunisia’s independence in 1956. His name was also given to a number of streets across Morocco.
Photograph taken in October 1946 in Geneva two months before Emir Shakib died.
